A Minor Rant

Have you ever been buying fresh basil and ripe tomatoes and reminisced about the time when you really loved Spaghetti-Os? And when you stop to think about it, you can't really figure out why you like to think you still like it. And then you realize you're trying to justify your own nostalgia to your cynical adult self.

I've suddenly started feeling that way about Star Wars. And I don't think it's because of changes in the movies. The original trilogy, looking back, just doesn't seem to have a lot of substance. What is the emperor's motive in anything he does in the original trilogy?

The addition of more moral ambiguity and complexity in the prequels was a good call, but so poorly executed that I think I sort of circled the wagons and convinced myself that Star Wars was supposed to be shallow and simplistic.

I honestly don't know how I feel about all this. I am mostly just putting this here to keep from forgetting it.
